CrossFit makes you better at everything!
Wanna do your first Triathlon? Get ready for your next big Fight? Lose weight? Get Strong before Football Tryouts?
By increasing your work capacity across broad times and modal domains, using a variety of different movements with roots in Gymnastics, Weightlifting and Conditioning, we have found the answer to preparing you for anything.
So where's the rub?
There is a conflict between Strength and Conditioning coaches and Specific training coaches on how to prepare their athletes.
When a new athlete comes in, their attention is always on technique and developing strong fundamentals. Kick the Pad, Hit the Target, Run this pattern 10 times then do it 10 more times. We are the same way with CrossFit. Our Athlete Prep Course teaches athletes how to do it right.
The rub comes in how to balance out how you condition your athlete and how you increase your athlete's skills. There has to be a balance.
Most skilled sports coaches want the conditioning to happen simultaneously with the skill work. Examples:
Get fit by drilling Judo throws over and over again before the tournament.
or
Scrimmaging Blitz Defensive tackling over and over again before the big games starts.
or
Running 40+ Miles every week to prepare for your Marathon.
Here is where having a conditioning program gives those athletes an advantage. Training your body to be stronger, more explosive and agile makes you better at performing the tasks your sport demands of you. Combining a program that conditions your body to be more efficient with a program that enhances your skill for your sport makes you UNSTOPPABLE.
CrossFit Pasadena is the proud home of the South Pasadena High School Wrestling Team. When we see them, we don't make them do wrestling drills, that's their coach's job. We have them focus on Explosive Power and Strength. It has helped them become more capable at their sport. The results are both Visible and Tangible
Here's the trick to doing it right...
You have to balance the volume of training with the Skill/Performance time of the sport.
When the athletes are in the off season, their sport volume is lower meaning you can have them spend more time and focus on their strength and conditioning.
When the season begins, their performance volume increases and their time spent in the gym should drop down to more of a maintenance. The type of training they do during those times should also reflect those periods in the training year.
If you are not a sportsman/woman and just enjoy training... Get the most out of it! But remember that when you choose a sport to take on, like running a marathon, or a triathlon... you have to balance your training schedule.
CrossFit will give you the best engine for the job, but you still have to go out there and practice running, swimming and biking before your Iron Man. You still have to drill the patterns on the field before the game and you still have to get on the mats and drill submissions before the tournament.
The average CrossFitter's Capacity is like that of an athlete. We are often surprised by what we are capable of.
Just yesterday Coach Erwin and Alfredo ran the Rose Bowl Half Marathon doing no more than a couple of shorter runs to prepare for it.
Both of them are very fit, train with consistency and understand the demands of tasks and challenges they choose to give themselves.
CrossFit works are both the supplemental training program for your sport, and as the Premium training program for your life.
